Skill Building
Overview
The Skill Building Program will target a variety of behaviors in which parents or caregivers hope to see increased. These include increasing and/or improving communication skills, social skills, adaptive behaviors, independent living behaviors, play skills, vocational skills, and preacademic behaviors.
Employers identify the ability to work in a team as the top attribute they look for on a candidate's resume, yet many students express distaste for working in groups. Why is this? We suspect it is because many of us lack the tools needed to work together effectively. Even if you struggle with working in groups, this program is designed to give you the tools and strategies to do so with ease.

PROGRAM OUTLINE
There are no prerequisites for this workshop besides having a group that you are currently involved in such as a club, group project for a class, internship, job, or other site to practice the tools and strategies you are learning in the workshop. Collaboration is inherently not a solo process. Recognizing this will help you to embrace the process, afford you the opportunity to share your new insights, and allow you to solicit ideas and feedback from your program colleagues and workshop facilitator.
Online + In-Person
This workshop is primarily self-paced on D2L. This means that for the most part, our due dates are meant to keep you on track towards completing the program, except for two instances—a kickoff event at the beginning of the workshop and a live culminating event at the end of the workshop
Hands-On Projects
You will have hands-on, project-based activities based on where you choose to apply what you are learning in real life, such as in a current job, internship, volunteer, or group project you are a part of. You will demonstrate what you did and what you’ve learned in a final project. This digital portfolio will help you organize ideas, track your progress, and serve as evidence of your journey to Collaboration excellence.
Time Commitment
The Build the Skill program can be completed in 10-15 hours, including the time it will take to learn the material, apply it in the group experience you are a part of, attending the events, and creating your final project
